Spanish-language series to try
| Series | Made in | Why it helps |
|---|---|---|
| La casa de las flores | Mexico | Family comedy-drama with everyday conversations |
| Club de Cuervos | Mexico | Comedy about a football club, with casual Mexican Spanish |
| Las chicas del cable (Cable Girls) | Spain | Period drama with clear speech |
| Élite | Spain | Teen drama with modern slang from Spain |
| La casa de papel (Money Heist) | Spain | Fast and intense: better from an intermediate level |
Spain or Latin America?
Spanish sounds different in Madrid, Mexico City and Buenos Aires: pronunciation, slang and some grammar vary. Most of Spain uses vosotros for “you all” and pronounces z and a soft c like the English th; Latin America uses ustedes and an s sound. Argentina and Uruguay use vos instead of tú.
No variety is better than another. Choose the one that matches your goals, whether travel, family or work, and mix in others as you advance. Some titles have more than one Spanish subtitle track, for Spain and for Latin America; pick the one that matches the show. Availability of every series in the table depends on your region.
Set up Spanish and English subtitles
- Install LinguaCap in Chrome and choose Spanish as the language you are learning and English as your native language.
- Open the series on netflix.com and select Spanish audio and Spanish subtitles.
- LinguaCap shows the Spanish line with the English translation underneath.
- Click words and idioms you do not know: the word card explains them in context. Save the useful ones.
Full setup details and troubleshooting are in the Netflix dual subtitles guide.
What to watch at each level
- A1–A2: learner videos on YouTube, such as Dreaming Spanish and Easy Spanish, and animated films you know in Spanish.
- B1: comedies and family dramas with everyday dialogue; keep the English line visible.
- B2: teen and crime dramas and reality shows; hide the English line and check it only when you are lost.
- C1 and above: fast thrillers, stand-up comedy and regional accents, with Spanish subtitles or none.
A weekly routine
- Monday to Thursday: one episode or half an episode, three saved phrases and one line practised with Dictation or Shadowing.
- Friday: rewatch your favourite scene of the week with Spanish subtitles only.
- Weekend: a relaxed episode without stopping, plus ten minutes of flashcards.
Twenty to thirty minutes a day is enough. What matters is reviewing what you saved; LinguaCap schedules flashcards so they return when you are about to forget them.
Keep going on your phone with YouTube
Netflix dual subtitles need a computer. On your phone, open YouTube in the LinguaCap app and continue with Spanish channels, interviews and vlogs: tap words, save phrases and review them in the same dictionary. See the YouTube dual subtitles guide.
Frequently asked questions
What is the best Netflix show to learn Spanish?
The best one is a show you enjoy and can mostly follow. Comedies and family dramas are easier than thrillers: La casa de las flores and Club de Cuervos are good starts for Mexican Spanish, Las chicas del cable for Spanish from Spain.
Should I watch with Spanish or English subtitles?
Spanish subtitles, with an English line underneath while you need it. English subtitles alone help you follow the plot but not your Spanish.
Can I learn Spanish with Netflix on my phone?
Not with dual subtitles, because the Netflix app does not run extensions. Use a computer for Netflix and the LinguaCap app for Spanish YouTube on your phone.
Should I learn Spanish from Spain or Latin America?
Either. Choose the variety you will use most; speakers of different varieties understand each other well.
