At a glance
Choose Language Reactor for its video catalogs, playback shortcuts and Netflix speech recognition on Pro. Choose our app if you want to turn a video into a repeatable routine: tap a word, review it later and practise listening by typing what you hear.
LinguaCap site and subtitle support
On desktop, our extension supports video and course subtitles on YouTube, Netflix, Prime Video, HBO Max, TED, edX, Coursera, Udemy, Crunchyroll, Domestika, DW Learn German and TV5MONDE Apprendre. Spotify is supported for translating song lyrics. Our extension also works on 1,000+ other compatible sites with VTT/SRT subtitle tracks. When it detects a video player, you can upload your own .srt or .vtt file to the current tab. On iOS and Android, our app works with YouTube and 1,000+ compatible websites that provide built-in VTT/SRT subtitles. For Netflix, Prime Video, HBO Max and Crunchyroll, use the desktop extension: their native mobile apps do not support browser extensions.

Subtitles are the start, not the entire lesson
Language Reactor gives you fine playback control: replay a line, move between subtitles, pause after each line and click a word for its definition. Its Netflix and YouTube catalogs help you find something to watch. Our app is useful when you already have a video or course in mind: tap unfamiliar words in interactive subtitles, save them and return to them in flashcards. If you learn from TED or Coursera as well as entertainment, check the specific video and caption availability before committing to a workflow.
How to practise after watching
Try a ten-minute test with the same YouTube video. First watch one minute with two subtitle languages. Then replay the same passage while hiding the translation where possible. Save five words you would actually use. In our app, follow with a short dictation and review the saved words; in Language Reactor, use auto-pause or PhrasePump. This reveals whether your real bottleneck is comprehension, listening or recall.
Where Language Reactor has the edge
Its keyboard controls are convenient when you analyse dialogue line by line; we also provide auto-pause and phrase repeat. Pro also adds Netflix speech recognition for audio tracks without matching subtitles. Both services support Anki export: with our Pro plan, you can export vocabulary directly from the mobile app or your account on the website. If you study dubbed Netflix content without matching captions, speech recognition is the more relevant difference.
Where Our app is a better fit
We combine contextual word translation, a personal vocabulary list, spaced repetition and dictation. This is a practical fit when you want one short cycle from watching to listening practice to review. The mobile apps support YouTube and compatible websites with built-in VTT/SRT subtitles. The desktop extension also lets you upload your own .srt or .vtt file and translates Spotify lyrics. Netflix and similar services restrict mobile-web playback, so use the desktop extension for those services.
AI translation, speaking and listening practice
Language Reactor is useful for replaying and inspecting video dialogue. We also have auto-pause and phrase repeat, then adds three practice modes: Shadowing to repeat after the speaker, Dictation to type what you hear, and Speaking to record your voice and compare the spoken words. AI-assisted translation and explanations help unpack an unfamiliar word or subtitle in context. Try the same difficult sentence in both tools and compare what you can say and understand afterward.
A reading path beyond video
We also have a Read section with books and articles arranged by CEFR level from A1 to C2. You can import your own PDF or EPUB and select a word or phrase for contextual translation and AI explanation. Saved vocabulary can return in FSRS-6 flashcards, which schedule reviews from your answers. This matters if your study session often moves from a video to a longer text rather than ending when playback stops.
