How much setup do you want?

Migaku goes well beyond dual subtitles. It analyses known and unknown words, estimates content difficulty, reads web text, and creates cards with a screenshot and audio snippet from a video. That depth is useful when you are building an intensive immersion system. We keep the entry point simple across YouTube, courses and 1,000+ compatible VTT/SRT sites: open a video, translate a word, save it and revisit it. In the desktop extension, you can also load your own .srt/.vtt subtitle file or translate Spotify lyrics.

A difference you can hear

Understanding written subtitles is not the same as recognising words in natural speech. Our dictation turns a short line into an explicit listening task: hear it, type it and inspect the mismatch. We also provide auto-pause and phrase repeat for self-directed listening drills. Try both on a phrase that sounded easy with text but difficult without it.

Flashcards and review

Migaku officially describes media-rich cards with sentence context, audio, images, screenshots and audio clips. We provide a personal word list and FSRS-6 review. Migaku deserves a close look if media attachments matter most; our review flow is worth testing for how it schedules reviews after video and reading sessions.

Before deciding

Pick a fifteen-minute video in your target language. Look up five words, create or save five cards, then return the next day. Count how much manual setup each tool required and whether you actually reviewed the words. This matters more than a feature checklist. On phones, we also support compatible websites with built-in VTT/SRT subtitles, while Migaku documents mobile YouTube viewing. Desktop streaming extensions do not run inside native streaming apps.

A fuller LinguaCap practice workflow

Migaku offers detailed media cards and controls for immersion. We offer more than quick lookup and dictation: AI-assisted translation and explanations cover words and subtitles, while Shadowing, Dictation and Speaking practise imitation, listening and recorded speech. Auto-pause and phrase repeat make a difficult line manageable. Our review scheduler uses FSRS-6, so the flashcard comparison should consider how reviews are timed as well as what media a card contains.

Compare reading with reading

Migaku analyses web text and estimates content difficulty. We have a catalog of books and articles organized by CEFR level, plus import of personal PDF and EPUB files. In Read, selected words and phrases get contextual translation and AI explanation. Test both with the same short text: note how easily you can understand a sentence, save a useful word and review it later. These are separate decisions from the video-card features.
