LinguaCap Manual

LinguaCap turns videos, songs, and reading into an active learning session. Use it in your browser or on your phone, then keep the words you discover in one personal dictionary.

These are official product guides maintained by the LinguaCap team. They describe what you can do in the current browser extension and mobile apps, rather than generic language-learning advice.

GET STARTED

Set up LinguaCap

Start on the device that fits your routine. The browser extension brings LinguaCap to supported desktop sites; the iPhone and Android apps combine a built-in browser, video practice, reading, and review tools.

   Add the extension to a Chromium browser, or download the mobile app from the App Store or Google Play.

   Create or sign in to your account

   Use the sign-in option in LinguaCap. An account keeps your language pair, dictionary, learning progress, and plan attached to you rather than to one device.

   Choose your learning and native languages

   These control the language you study and the language used for translations. You can change them later in Settings.

Set up the browser extension

1. Install LinguaCap from the Chrome Web Store, then pin it in your browser toolbar.
2. Open the extension to begin the welcome flow, select your language pair, and sign in.
3. Open a supported video, music, or learning website. LinguaCap activates its player tools when the page is supported.

Set up the mobile app

1. Download LinguaCap, complete the onboarding questions, and sign in to the same account you use elsewhere.
2. Start in Browse to open a website or video, then use Read, Dictionary, or Settings from the app navigation.
3. Return to the same account on another device whenever you want your words and progress available there.

Choose your languages

LinguaCap asks for two languages during setup:

• Learning language — the language you want to understand better.
• Native language — the language that translation cards use to explain unfamiliar words.

The app interface language is a separate setting. For example, you can learn Spanish from English while using the interface in Russian. Open Settings whenever you need to adjust either choice.

LEARN WITH VIDEO

Turn a video into a lesson

Open a supported video and start playback. LinguaCap adds a learning layer around the content so you can follow the original language without losing the flow of the scene.

A practical video-learning loop

1. Watch a short scene once without stopping, using the original subtitles if you need a safety net.
2. Turn on the translated line when the context is unclear rather than translating every sentence in advance.
3. Pause on one useful phrase, replay it, and save only the word or expression you expect to use again.
4. Finish the scene, then open your saved words or dictation practice for active recall.

Use interactive subtitles

When subtitles are available, LinguaCap can show the original line and a translated line together. This is useful when you want to stay with the audio while checking meaning only when needed.

1. Open the LinguaCap controls in the player or extension panel.
2. Choose the subtitle track and turn on translated subtitles.
3. Use the appearance controls to choose the order, size, and visibility that feels comfortable.

For longer videos, open the transcript to scan the dialogue, jump to a line, or return to a phrase after you have watched it. A subtitle translation supports comprehension; it is not meant to replace listening to the original audio.

When captions are not available

LinguaCap needs a compatible source subtitle track to create bilingual subtitles. Try another video, enable captions in the site’s own player, or choose a different track when the player offers one. If the site exposes no captions, subtitle learning tools may not be available for that item.

Translate and save words

Choose a word in the subtitle or text to open its translation card. On desktop, this is typically done by pointing at or selecting the word; in the mobile apps, tap the word or selection.

Save phrases, not only single words, when the meaning depends on the surrounding language. A dictionary with fewer useful entries is easier to review than a long list of every unknown word from a video.

Practice with dictation

Dictation turns a video into focused listening practice. LinguaCap plays a short segment, then gives you space to type what you heard. Check the result, compare it with the original line, and continue to the next segment.

1. Open a video with a transcript, then start Dictation from the player’s learning tools.
2. Listen to the segment before reading its subtitles and type the words you hear.
3. Check your answer, notice the words you missed or joined together, and replay the segment if helpful.
4. Continue with the next segment; stop while you are still focused and return another day.

READ

Read in LinguaCap

The mobile apps include a dedicated Read space for books and saved articles. Choose a title from the library or catalog, then use the reader to keep your place and look up words without leaving the page.

• Library keeps books and articles you have added.
• Reader helps you continue where you left off and select unfamiliar text.
• Dictionary connection lets you turn discoveries from reading into words to review.

Read an article or a book

1. Open an article in the mobile Browser and switch to its reading view when you want a cleaner page.
2. Save the article to return to it in Read, or select a title already available in the reading library.
3. Select a word as you read, then save it only if it is useful for your own vocabulary.

REVIEW

Build a dictionary you will return to

Every saved word or phrase lives in your LinguaCap dictionary. Use the Dictionary to browse what you have collected, inspect a word in detail, and edit or remove entries you no longer need.

When you want active practice, open Flashcards. LinguaCap shows cards that are ready for review so your vocabulary does not disappear after the video ends.

Make review manageable

Open Flashcards when you have a few minutes, work through the cards that are ready, and rate your recall honestly. Regular short reviews are more useful than a large catch-up session after weeks away.

BROWSER EXTENSION

Use LinguaCap in your browser

The LinguaCap extension works in Chrome and other Chromium-based browsers, including Edge, Brave, Opera, and Yandex Browser. Install the Chrome Web Store version, then pin it to the toolbar so it is always easy to reach.

1. Install LinguaCap from the Chrome Web Store.
2. Open the extension from the browser toolbar and complete the welcome flow.
3. Sign in, choose your languages, and open a supported site.

Depending on your browser, LinguaCap opens as a docked side panel or an in-page overlay. Both give you access to the current site, your dictionary, account, settings, and plan information.

Use the extension on a page

1. Keep the extension signed in. Its subtitle, word-card, dictionary, and account features rely on your LinguaCap account.
2. Open the player settings when you want to change subtitle visibility, translation behavior, or playback-related preferences.
3. On music services, use the lyrics panel to read the song and access available translation controls without leaving the current track.

Supported sites

LinguaCap is built for popular video and music platforms, including YouTube, Netflix, TED, Coursera, edX, Prime Video, Crunchyroll, Spotify, and Yandex Music. It also supports many sites that expose compatible VTT or SRT subtitle tracks.

Each site can offer a different subset of features because video players and caption formats are not identical. The most reliable path is to begin with a video that already has captions and then check the LinguaCap player controls.

MOBILE APPS

Learn on iPhone and Android

The mobile apps bring LinguaCap’s learning tools into one place. Use the built-in browser to open content, browse suggestions in Explore, read in the Read tab, manage words in Dictionary, and change preferences in Settings.

Find your way around

• Android has Browse, Explore, Read, Dictionary, and Settings in its main navigation.
• iPhone has Browser, Read, Dictionary, and Settings; discovery lives with the Browser home experience.
• Dictionary is where saved words live on both platforms, with flashcards available for review.

ACCOUNT & SYNC

Keep your learning connected

Sign in with the same LinguaCap account on each device. Your selected languages, saved words, flashcard progress, and account plan are then connected across the extension and mobile apps.

If something looks different on a new device, first confirm that you are signed in to the same account. Give a recent change a moment to sync, then reopen the relevant screen if necessary.

Move to a new device

1. Install LinguaCap on the new device or browser.
2. Sign in to the account you used before; do not create a second account by mistake.
3. Open Dictionary or Flashcards to confirm your saved items appear, then continue learning as normal.

Free and Pro

LinguaCap has a free plan so you can build a learning habit before upgrading. The app and extension show the current plan and relevant allowances in the account or upgrade area.

Pro is for learners who need more room for regular practice and premium capabilities. Subscription availability and payment options can vary by platform and region; use the Upgrade screen in LinguaCap for the options available to your account.
